Sana'a, Yemen - Four people were killed and 13 injured as security forces clashed with separatists in the southern Yemeni city of Dhalea on Monday, police officials and witnesses said.The violence erupted after gunmen believed to be supporters of the Southern Movement fired rocket propelled grenades at military checkpoints and army positions near the provincial capital of Dhalea, local officials said.Security forces in the city also exchanged fire with armed members of the separatist Southern Movement after they tried to force shop owners to close as part of a strike called by the movement, police officials said.Witnesses said armed separatists raised flags of the former South Yemen on local government buildings.Military forces positioned on hillsides overlooking Dhalea also fired artillery and tank ****ls at three of the city's neighbourhoods.Four civilians were killed and 13 others, including four policemen, were injured in the clashes, police officials said.Dhalea is one of the strongholds of the Southern Movement, which seeks the secession of the south of Yemen from the north.The city is one of many in the south that have been the scene of deadly clashes in recent months between security forces and insurgents.
