Report to Human Rights Organizations Worldwide

Concerning: detainees of the peaceful protest demonstration of November 30th 2009 in Aden

The Yemeni Organization for Defense of Human Rights and Democratic Freedoms denounce the Yemeni Security Authorities for the suppression of the peaceful demonstration in Aden, organized by the Peaceful Southern Movement on November 30th, 2009 on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of the independency of the South.

The security authorities had distributed dozens of military crews and hundreds of soldiers at the entrances to Aden and arrested nearly two thousand citizens of the South between the ages of 13 and 70 years under inhuman conditions denying visits. Furthermore, they were not allowed to contact lawyers there were not even referred to the public prosecutor.

Although the authorities in Yemen communicated to the AlJazeerah-TV the release of all detainees, we ascertain that there is no any truth in this. In contradictory, when our organization had access to some places of detention, we learned that tear-gas was used into the prison wards to break the willpower of the detainees and some of them were beaten. And as if that was not enough, the authority asks the detainees to present guaranties not to participate in any protest actions in the future.

We call upon all regional and international human rights organizations and Amnesty International to intervene with the Yemeni authorities to alleviate the suffering of the people of the South, as well as to intervene to release detainees and stop the illegal trials against the detainees of the peaceful southern movement such as:

- Ambassador Qssim Asskar Gubran
- Dr. Hussain Al-Aaqil, professor at the University of Aden.
- Brigadier-General Aideroos Huqqais
- Brigadier-General Ahmad Mohammed Ba-Muallim
- Brigadier-General Ali Al-Saadi
- Brigadier-General Othman Al-Dairi
- Mr. Hassan Zaid Bin-Yahya
And more others who have been in prison for more than 6 months.

We also urge you to intervene to abandon prosecution of southern political activists and to release their salaries that were banned by the Yemeni government.
