SAN'A, Yemen - A Yemeni security official says security forces have dispersed several separatist rallies across the country's troubled south.
The official says Thursday's protests drew thousands to the streets in several towns in the province of Aden. Participants held banners calling for a "revolution" against the north.
The official says troops detained dozens of protesters. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to talk to the media.
Yemen is struggling with a secessionist movement in the south, which was once a separate country before the 1990 unification with the north.
The separatist movement has lately gained strength and protests often turn violent. Southerners complain of neglect and discrimination by the north.
