Five people killed, 10 injured in clashes in southern Yemen07/06/2010


Five people were killed and 10 others wounded in fierce clashes between security forces and protesters in the southern province of al-Dhale early Monday, local source said.

A lead member in the anti-government Southern Movement told News Yemen that four women from one family have sustained injuries.

The government fired artillery and tank ****ls at the city after it failed to prevent peaceful protests in the city, the source said, threatening that violence will lead to more violence.

Local officials accused members of the Southern Movement of firing RPG at military and security positions and some houses in the city.

Southern provinces, particularly in some areas of al-Dhale and Lahj, continue to witness more violence as the government remains unable to find proper solutions for factors behind tensions flared in 2007.
